"Talking about tourism, the summer of 2017 is confirmed as the best in the last 10 years" declares Condacons in its survey about Italians’ holidays. This year, indeed,
33,5 million of Italians left for holidays, that means 1,2 million more than 2016 and 11,1 million more than 2017, with a
49% increase in 10 years. Even after the recent terroristic episodes, the
78% of Italians’ families decided to
stay in Italy preferring, in this order,
Puglia, Sicily, Tuscany and Liguria. Among the foreign destinations Greece keep its first place, followed by Croatia and Spain. The families’
average budget it’s instead decreased compared to last summer, whit a
reduction of -3%. This decrease doesn’t concern the amount dedicated to food and, especially, to the good food. The survey of Coldiretti/Ixé confirms the
first place for food and wine tourism in Italy. In particular, about Italians’ holidays in our country,
one third of the families’ budget seems to be
dedicated to the table, with an evident return to the
pleasure of eating out. Another important newness of this summer has been the research of wellness and the
preference for health products, with an increasing request of this kind of products, such as, for example, whole cereals (+11%), organic (+20%) and gluten free (+26%). The 2017 has also seen a
significant increase of foreign tourists in Italy (+5,8% compared to 2016), according to the survey carried out by Centro Studi Turistici on behalf of Confesercenti-Assoturismo. Finally a
raise of cultural tourism has been observed, with a record attendance at museums (twice growth rate compared to that recorded during the year), as well as a raise
of sustainable tourism, like the choice of walking paths, with a gain between 10 and 20% on the most famous ones, such as Via Francigena and francescani itineraries. Certainly the 2017 summer will be remembered as the one of
tourism restart in Italy.
